Dog Days of Summer Are Here
The temperatures are on the rise in North Texas and we’re all looking for ways to keep cool. But it’s not only us that need reprieve from the heat. Our vehicles can suffer as well. High temperatures can damage the battery and the cooling system so these systems need to be checked periodically.
Excessive heat can shorten the life of your vehicle’s battery. Heat can cause battery fluid to evaporate, causing damage to the internal structure of the battery. Preventive maintenance goes a long way toward prolonging the life of your battery. Take a few minutes to read about your battery in your car’s manual and become familiar with what kind of battery it is, where it is, how to safely clean it and what the indicator lights inside your car might be trying to tell you.
The cooling system also works harder during hot temperatures to prevent overheating of the engine. CarCare.org suggests the coolant be changed annually on most vehicles. This will keep the cooling system fresh and clean inside, which helps prevent corrosion and assures that the coolant has the proper boiling point and protection.
